Layne wake surfing

Okanagan Local goes wake surfing. Surf’s up!

When I got the invite from Peach City Surf to bring the crew down to Skaha lake for a round of wake surfing I was optimistic that I would be able to pick it up quickly. I am an experienced snowboarder so I’d hoped that the principles would be the same, however riding on water and riding on snow are very different as I discovered. I came to regret only working out the upper half of my body for the last couple of months, mainly because the experience was so fun and I wanted to keep going and striving to get better but my legs were straight gassed before long. Of the three of us who had little to no wake surfing exposure, it was close, but I’d have to give the nod to our youngest crew member, Layne, who at 15 was able to hold on a little longer after tossing the rope and continuing on wave power only.

The smoke was still pretty heavy in the air but being out on the lake with the friendly gang from Peach City Surf was a blast and before long we were all cheering as each of us were able to toss the rope for a little while. Our fourth member of the crew, our trusty photographer Carlee, with a few hours under her belt, was popping 360s and showing us how it’s done. All in all, I can’t think of much more fun to be had then hitting the pleasantly mild waters of Skaha and skimming along behind a boat full of cool people.

After we got back on shore we were all ready for a snack and since the PCS kids recommended it and I had yet to hit it up, we finished our day off with some seriously legit poutine from the Jeffer’s Fryzz truck in downtown Penticton. I may or may not have had a nap later….
